Plattsburgh, NY

. Friday, June 09, 2006

My first job out of college was in Plattsburgh, NY. I was a junior engineering doing CAD drafting for a chandelier company. Jobs were kind of scarce after I graduated so I took this job. It was interesting how I got the job because they called me. Well, they actually called Clarkson University who gave them my phone number. Here's some pictures of my first apartment in Plattsburgh.

The apartment was located over the local union hall and a comic book store. It was $450/month including utilities if I remember correctly. It was OK living in Plattsburgh. It's right on Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks are a short drive away. And I swear to God that I even saw Champ the legendary sea monster while I was there! He even plays HOCKEY!

But after about a year, I realized that Plattsburgh and my job duties really didn't suit me well. I wanted to do some "real" engineering and wanted to live in a bigger city. I really like nature and all, but I really needed some culture too. So I soon found a job in the consulting engineering world in Rochester, NY. I really loved the people I worked with at my first job, but Plattsburgh just wasn't the right town for me.

Here's one of my favorite pictures from Plattsburgh. Legend has it that the eagle will fly off the top of the monument when a virgin graduates from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Boo is that an actual photo of your apartment from back in the day? If so it looks pretty cool!

Boo, I have a nephew that went there for about a year. He told me of a Fraternity House there that has all these secret passages, hidden rooms and staircases in it, and it was pretty well known around the area. I think it is registered on the National Historical Registry tho I don't recall if it was part of the underground railroad system, or if it was an old Speakeasy. Are you familiar with this? and if so, ever been there. It sounded really neat.

Newt - But have you SEEN Yobgorgle?

Saint - That was my first "real" apartment - hand-me-down furniture and all.

Z - I'm not familiar with the fraternity house you're speaking of.

For a male, that was a pretty neat and clean looking apartment! ;-)

Of course it was clean because I cleaned the apartment just for that picture!

Hey Badboy! (Sounds better than Booboo!) :)

I talked with my nephew about that Frat house I had mentioned. It's called Omicron Pi Omicron, their website, which doesn't have a heck of alot on there) is:

http://people.clarkson.edu/~opio/

Are you familiar with it?

I've heard of that fraternity. I think you're a bit confused though. Clarkson is in Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh is in... well... Plattsburgh.

The fraternities and sororities at Clarkson have traditionally have maintained higher gpas than the rest of the student population.

Damn..you'r right! I remember seeing the link to Clarkson on your side bar and somehow thought you were still talking about that!
Net place all the same tho!
