Walking the walk

. Wednesday, August 30, 2006

Many of you are regular readers and know that I work for an architectural/engineering firm that I jokingly call Forest Animals A/E. My company is at the forefront of sustainable or so called "green" design. Almost half of our technical professionals are LEED certified by the US Green Building Council. The buildings we design are energy efficient and minimize the impact to our environment. One small thing that my company did recently is purchase two Toyota Prius hybrids. These cars will be available for use by the employees for going to job sites in lieu of renting a "regular" car. It's a great feeling to work for a company that does it's part to preserve and protect our environment.

UPDATE

We had our class on how to use the car earlier this morning and these cars are as cool as shit! Some of the highlights were the proximity sensor in the key fob. The car doors automatically lock when you walk away from the car. The driver's door will unlock when you're within a certain distance of the car. You don't even have to put the "key" in the car to turn on the car. The proximity sensor takes care of that. It has a cool touch screen too and a rear-view camera so you can see if your ex-wife is still alive and moving after you run her over. The car also has an Ipod connection. I can't wait to go on a site visit so I can actually drive the car.

That's really cool! Good for them. Hopefully more and more companies will follow yours. You'll have to let us know how you like the car. :)

Cool. I test drove a Prius once....great car! I would have bought one if there hadn't been a waiting list.

Just for the record - I do NOT have an ex-wife. I was just trying to make a funny comment about the rear view camera.
