Harmony Korine by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree)

Rain, come down, and fall forever
Drain, the dirt, into the wasteland
Pray, for sound, to quiet the howling

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Kneel, to fade, the days corrosion
Crawl, depart, towards perdition
Gray, the part, the bruise within you

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Forever

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

.

Never stop the car on a drive in the dark
Never look for the truth in your mother's eyes
Never trust the sound of rain upon a river
Rushing through your ears

Arriving somewhere but not here

Did you imagine the final sound as a gun?
Or the smashing windscreen of a car?
Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

All my designs, simplified
And all of my plans, compromised
All of my dreams, sacrificed

Ever had the feeling you've been here before?
Drinking down the poison the way you were taught
Every thought from here on in your life begins
And all you knew was wrong?

Did you see the red mist block your path?
Did the scissors cut a way to your heart?
Did you feel the envy for the sons of mothers tearing you apart?

Porcupine Tree - Open Car

Nothing like this
Felt in her kiss
Cannot resist her
Fell for her charm
Lost in her arms
I keep a photograph
Give me a glimpse
Let me come in
Be there inside her
Here it begins
Here is the sin
Something to lie about
You think you're smart
I think you're art
We agree on this
It doesn't work
Feeling like dirt
Feeling like you don't care
We get a room
And in the gloom
She lights a cigarette
Clothes on the bed
Love me she said
I lose myself to her
I'm getting feelings
I'm hiding too well
(Bury the horse shaped shell)
Something broke inside my stomach
I let the pieces lie just where they fell
(Being with you is hell)
Hair blow in an open car
Summer dress slips down her arm
Hair blown in an open car
OK what's next?
After the sex
What do we now?
Finding the time
Drawing the line
And never crossing it
Gave her the hours
Gave her the power
Cannot erase her
Gave her the truth
Gave her the proof
I gave her everything
I'm getting feelings
I'm hiding to well
(Bury the horse shaped shell)
Something broke inside my stomach
I let the pieces lie just where they fell
(Being with you is hell)
Hair blow in an open car
Summer dress slips down her arm
Hair blown in an open car
On a drive out to the farm
Hair blown in an open car
Hair blown in an open car
Summer dress slips down your arm
Hair blown in an open car..

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet

Sunlight coming through the haze
No gaps in the blinds
To let it inside
The bed is unmade, some music still plays

TV, yeah it's always on
A flicker of the screen
A movie actor screams
I'm basking in the shit flowing out of it

I'm stoned in the mall again
Terminally bored
Shuffling around the stores
And shoplifting is getting so last year's thing

Xbox is a god to me
My finger on the switch
My mother is a bitch
My father gave up ever trying to talk to me

Don't try engaging me
The vaguest of shrugs
The prescription drugs
You'll never find a person inside

My face is smothered on
Curiosity is good enough for me
I'm tuning out his eyes
Pills are on the rise

How can I be sure I'm here?
The pills that I've been taking confuse me
I need to know that someone sees that
There's nothing left, I simply am not here

I'm through with pornography
The acting is lame
The action is tame
Explicitly dull, or rather a lull

Your mouth should be boarded up
Talking all day with nothing to say
Your shallow proclamations
All misinformation

My friend says he wants to die
He's in a band, they sound like Pearl Jam
Their clothes are all black
The music is crap

In school I don't concentrate
And sex is kinda fun, but just another one
Of all the empty ways of using up the day

How can I be sure I'm here?
The pills that I've been taking confuse me
I need to know that someone sees that
There's nothing left, I simply am not here

Bipolar disorder
Can't be any boarder
Bipolar disorder
Can't be any boarder

Don't try to be liked
You don't mind
You feel no sun
You steal a gun
To kill time
You're somewhere
You're no where
You don't care
You catch the breeze
It still relieves
So now where?

We All Need Some Light

. Tuesday, August 07, 2007

Some people think
Think they have none
They might as well stay down
Running in circles
Like bulls in a ring
'Til the sword finds it's way down

While the creep beats the rap on appeal
And the cop who can't stop
Shows the kids how to steal

And we all need some light now
We all need some light now
Yes, we all need some light now
Turn on your light
And wash the darkness away

Hey you on the brink
Waiting to fall
To become human surplus
The movie's still shooting
You might still get the roll
And man it's all just a circus

But the clown left town long ago
Maybe he'll come back and give us a show

And we all need some light now
We all need some light now
Yes, we all need some light now
Turn on your light and wash the darkness away

She is Everything

The first breath of summer in warm morning rain
Where crimson flowers covered the ground
The world faded 'round us
We fell to our knees
Amazed at the love we had found

She is everything
The sacred, the pure
The fix, the addiction
The vision, the cure

She rings down the years
'Round the corners we turned
An ember still burns to this day
But now it's all fading away

She is everything
With words of forever we'd paint through the night
Pictures of life we would share
Then we joined together with all that we owned

A promise
A ring and a prayer

My Generation - The Who (song)
Home Again - from "Breathe" reprise and "Time" on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon

~ QUIZ ~

Dream Theater is one of my all-time favorite bands. If you like progressive-metal, it doesn't get any better than this band. There's a section from the song, Octavarium, where the band makes reference to other band names, artisits, album titles, song lyrics, and pop culture references that were influential to the band. The references are merged together like a big run-on sentence (as you'll see in the lyric passage below - note the appropriate lyrics in red) to create a really neat lyrical passage Your assignment is to identify the references. A Rabbit Ramblings t-shirt goes to the person who can correctly identify the most references.

To start you off and give you a clue

Sailing on the Seven Seas by OMD (song) or possibly Seven Seas of Rhye by Queen (song)

Here are the lyrics:

sailing on the seven seize the day tripper diem's ready
jack the ripper owens wilson phillips and my supper's ready
lucy in the sky with diamond dave's not here I come to save the
day for nightmare cinema show me the way to get back home again

Running forward
Falling back
Spinning round and round
Looking outward
Reaching in
Scream without a sound

Leaning over
Crawling up
Stumbling all around
Losing my place
Only to find I've come full circle

flying off the handle with careful with
that axe eugene gene the dance machine
messiah light my fire gabba gabba
hey hey my my generation's home again

The Perception of Johnny Punter

. Saturday, March 03, 2007
0 comments

Just another wake up, a hostage of a sunrise,
Just another paranoid, victimised motherfucker living on the planet.

Just before it kicks in

Just like a silver bullet,
Take a good look at yourself in the mirror and tell me that it's worth it,
Said it'll never happen, you said you'd never get caught out,
You settled in a habit, so now you're Mr Fixit,
Just another alien, living on the planet,
Living on the planet, living on the planet.
It's just one of those days when you know that something's gonna happen.

Another betrayal, lose another friend,
You know you never need them, on your own until the bitter end.
Just another pick up, just another kill, someone else's daughter, someone else's girl,
Living on the planet.

We are in another world, Living on the planet we are, we are,
And you know there's some days when you feel that something's gonna happen,
This is one of those days which you know that something's gonna happen,
And something's gonna happen.

Somedays you just wake up and you don't have any real sense of direction, you just can't find the will to get up and go through with it all, your next allotted 24 hour slice of destiny.

There's just a bad vibe and rather than a world of opportunities, it's full of threats and just too many negative variables.
I'd noticed these houses way up in the hills and I tried to imagine what it would have been like living up there isolated from the world, every night watching the fires crawl slowly down the valley, and knowing that one night it was gonna be your turn for the visit.

I tried to imagine what it would have been like hiding in a cellar with your family and the fear hoping that when they do come, when the dogs don't bark, and the silence is around you, you hope that they burn the whole house around your ears and they don't discover you hiding in the cellar because you've got nowhere to go, and you know that one day that something's gonna happen.

There's one day, just one day.

Just another village burning in the hills,
I saw it on the TV, just another thrill,
Someone else's problems, someone else's grief,
Someone else's children, living on the planet,
We are in another world living on the planet,
We are in another world living on the planet, we are, we are.

It's just one of those places that never exist till you've been there,
It's just one of those things that you never will see till you wake up,
And you know that somewhere there's somebody that's out there who thinks like you do.
And you hope that today is the day that it's all gonna happen for you.
And you know there's somedays when you feel that something's gonna happen.
This is one of those days which you know that something's gonna happen.

Charting the Single by Marillion

Slow French kissing with the Dauphin's daughter
If I fall in love now I'll be floating in Seine
Plastered in Paris I've had an Eiffel
Gonna make my escape on the midnight train
Choo, choo to you - Choo, choo to you - Charting the single
Schnapping my fingers on an alcoholiday
Sniff round a Fraulein when I'm scent to Cologne
All night hotel Liebling make your mark
Let sugar daddy melt in his home sweet home
Home is where the heart lies, but if the heart lies
Where is home, is where the heart lies, but where is home?

Get a pizza the action when I Romeo again
Chianti see you with me, so just let him wine
Juliet on the balcony, it's pasta serenade
Wedding rings, I know when Venice time, Venice time
To chart the single, to chart the single

Charting the single, charting the single

The chicks are getting cheaper on the not so common market
Stockpile experience before the blond hairs turn to grey
Before the blond hairs turn to grey
I like to train, express myself in the universal language
Ego on my face in the nicest possible way
It's absolutely the nicest possible way

Charting the single

I got no clause in my contract, got no shares in my name
I'm just charting the single in a bachelor's game
Charting the single
It's a solo performance on a one way street
You'll never have the chance again and never again we'll meet
Charting, charting, charting, charting the single

Like a desert needs rain
Like a town needs a name
I need your love
Like a drifter needs a room
Hawkmoon
I need your love

Like a rhythm unbroken
Like drums in the night
Like sweet soul music
Like sunlight
I need your love

Like coming home
And you dont know where youve been
Like black coffee
Like nicotine
I need your love

When the night has no end
And the day yet to begin
As the room spins around
I need your love

Like a phoenix rising
Needs a holy tree
Like the sweet revenge
Of a bitter enemy
I need your love

Like the heat needs the sun
Like honey on her tongue
Like the muzzle of a gun
Like oxygen
I need your love

When the night has no end
And the day yet to begin
As the room spins around
I need your love

Like thunder needs rain
Like the preacher needs pain
Like tongues of flame
Like a blind mans cane

Like a needle in a vein
Like someone to blame
Like a thought unchained
Like a runaway train
I need your love

Like a fighters rage
His dreams in a cage
Like faith needs a doubt
Like a freeway out
I need your love

Like powder needs a spark
Like lies need the dark
I need your love

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come, he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach.
One man betrayed with a kiss
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love(nobody like you...)

Early morning, april 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love...

Frost*

I just discovered a great new band called Frost*. Their debut albut album is titled Milliontown, and it's neo-prog music at its best! I came across this group quite by accident. I was in the process of ordering the latest Spock's Beard cd on Amazon.com and they have that link that says "people who ordered this have also ordered this. So I did quick google search of Frost* and came upon their website. The website had some mp3 samples of their songs for people to check out. I would classify their style as being similar to Spock's Beard but with a more "industrial" feel. The first song, Hyperventilate, is an instrumental song and is my favorite of the entire cd. So I recommend going to www.frost-music.com and checking them out.

I rarely listen to music on the radio any more. I'm not into "pop" music at all. It's way too processed and it all sounds the same. I probably stopped listening to pop music back in the 80s. A majority of the music I listen to now isn't even played on the radio. When I do listen to music on the radio, it's typically "classic rock" or "alternative rock" stations.

There are links to some of my favorite music groups on my blog's sidebar. Without having the benefit of having my music collection in front of me, here is a list of all the music groups I have cds of (in no particular order).

Marillion
Spock's Beard
Dream Theater
Liquid Tension Experiment
The Tragically Hip
Son Volt
Radiohead
Fish
Iris
H
Transatlantic
The Watchmen
Linkin Park
Metalica
Rush
Queensryche
Queen
Genesis
Peter Gabriel
Yes
U2
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
Schrodinger's Cat
Bush
Alice in Chains
Robert Plant
Heart
Pat Benetar
Loreena McKennit
Jethro Tull
Joe Satriani
Eric Johnson
Van Halen

I'm sure I missed some but that's a pretty good summary.

Let Down

. Thursday, October 26, 2006

Transport, motorways and tramlines
Starting and then stopping
Taking off and landing
The emptiest of feelings
Disappointed people clinging on to bottles
And when it comes it's so so disappointing

Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around

Shell smashed, juices flowing
Wings twitch, legs are going
Don't get sentimental
It always ends up drivel

One day I'm going to grow wings
A chemical reaction
Hysterical and useless
Hysterical and ...

Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around

Let down again
Let down again
Let down again

You know, you know where you are with
You know where you are with
Floor collapsing
Floating, bouncing back
And one day....
I am going to grow wings
A chemical reaction
Hysterical and useless
Hysterical and...

Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around
