Today’s ride was almost as difficult as yesterday’s. No rain but it was mighty chilly out when we started out. It’s August! I shouldn’t be able to see my breath first thing in the morning! It also sucked that my shoes were still kind of soggy. There’s nothing worse than the squishing of soggy shoes.

We headed out of Maryland and back into West Virginia. My body was pretty beat from yesterday’s ride. I was completely spent. It was sore and it was hard to get any kind of rhythm going on the hills. Fortunately, it was a fairly short ride today – only 50 miles. Things eventually warmed up and overall had a decent ride. My bike wasn’t shifting well at all despite giving it a good cleaning after yesterday’s ride. Shifting wasn’t crisp and the chain would occasionally hop, especially in my 14T. I installed a new chain earlier this year so I suspected that the cog needed replacing. Problem was that the next town with a bike shop wouldn’t be until we reached Washington DC.

I’m pretty sure that Romney was the town where George and I went to this awesome Mexican restaurant for our second dinner of the day. Who would imagine you could find good Mexican food in West Virginia?!?!

Everyone’s getting excited that we’re entering our last week on the road. Only five more days to go! I could feel the Atlantic Ocean calling my name…
