New York Trip - Part 2

. Wednesday, July 11, 2007

Our first whole day in NY we spent driving to Rochester. This is where I met my wife and we lived prior to moving south. Rochester has a great zoo called the Seneca Park Zoo. It takes about 2 hours to get there from my parents' house, and we arrived a little after 10:00. Soon after we got there, the zoo put on a show about animals and how they use their tails. One of the animals was a hawk. It flew right over our heads from the stage to a perch on a building behind us. It then swooped right over our heads back to the perch on the stage. We also saw an owl, duck, baby alligator, bush baby, boa constrictor, and some cat that looked like a lynx but was some other type of cat. Grabbed some lunch and then walked around, checking out all the other animals. We caught some other presentations put on by the zoo. We watched them feed the river otters, the penguins, and the sea lions. We were at the zoo for close to five hours, and Boo Jr held up well with all the walking. We stopped at the gift shop on the way out and got my son a stuffed penguin (his favorite animal he saw at the zoo) and a t-shirt.

We drove to Lake Ontario to go for a ride on the big carousel, but it was closed on Mondays. We walked along the boardwalk and let Boo Jr play on the playground. We met up with one of my wife's friends and grabbed an early dinner at the Macaroni Grill. It was about 6:30 by the time we left Rochester. By the time we got home and got my son ready for bed, it was pushing 9:00.

Tomorrow, we would spend much of the day with my wife's parents at the boat in Sylvan Beach.
