Morning Routine

. Tuesday, March 11, 2008

I wake up at 6:00 every morning. After I shower and get dressed, I surf the net until 7:00. That's when it's time to wake Boo Jr up and get him ready for school. He's reasonably cooperative for the most part when he first gets up, but he can be an ugly troll at times. Sometimes I'll get one of his buddies (his stuffed animals) to taunt him in order to wake him up. I let him hang out for a minute or two after he wakes up, and then it's time to head downstairs. I carry Boo Jr and all of his buddies downstairs and place him on the couch. He'll hang out there a little while longer while he wakes up some more. In the meantime, I'll do something like load/unload the dishwasher or take a dump or something. Eventually, I'll carry Boo Jr and his buddies from the couch to the bathroom for him to go pee. We then sit on the stairs with my son sitting on my lap. We snuggle and tickle and hang out some more. To finish, I carry him upside down, my son grabs a buddy, and we go for a ride through the living room upside down. I'll get my son fixed up with some breakfast before I set off to leave for work (typically a little before 7:30). I give my son a kiss goodbye and then we do the same routine:

Boo Jr: Bye!

Me: Bye!

Boo Jr: See ya later!

Me: See ya later!

Boo Jr: I love you!

Me: I love you too!

Boo Jr: Blow me a kiss!

Me: (I blow my son a kiss)

Boo Jr: (My son grabs the kiss out of the air and blows me one back)

Me: (I catch the kiss and rub it in my heart)

Boo Jr: Bye!

Me: Bye!

Boo Jr: See ya later!

Me: See ya later!

Boo Jr: I love you!

Me: I love you too!

Boo Jr: Ice cream!

Me: Ice Cream!

After all that, I back out of the driveway and wave goodbye to Boo Jr who has since run to the living room window to wave back to me and see me off.

That's some routine. Here is our routine:

My husband and I get up at 5:45 and get ready for the day. I turn on the hall light and go downstairs to get my son's lunch and snack ready for school. I then put everything into his backpack. At 6:30 I open my son's bedroom door and flash the hall light on and off a few times so it wakes him up. I then go back downstairs. By 6:35 my son is usually downstairs and he insists on making lunch for my husband! He does a pretty good job, too. He also always writes him a note that says something like I love Daddy, and he draws a picture of all of us, and then he sticks it in the lunchbox. :-) Either my husband or I, whomever has the most time at that moment, will get my son his breakfast, usually warmed up pancakes, milk and a vitamin, and he'll eat while watching The Disney Channel. At 7:00 my son and I run up the stairs and he gets dressed as fast as he can, goes to the bathroom and brushes his teeth. By 7:10 we're on our bikes and biking up to the school. He gets there usually around 7:20 or 7:25 depending on how much wildlife we see. Sometimes we see deer on the way to school and have to stop and watch them for a second. Once we saw a skunk and I wouldn't let him stop to watch! When we get to school we lock up his bike, I give him his 'hand kisses' (I kiss his hands and he puts the kisses away in his pocket in case he needs them later in the day), and off he goes into school. I hop on my bike and ride back home and I'm usually here by 7:40, and I start doing my work. Except for on days like today when I get sidetracked by blogs. ;-)
